Coming 2019 - 2020: Teacher and Admin User-Interface Enhancements

In Spring 2019, Penda Learning's CEO, Corey J. Peloquin, met with Florida teachers, school administrators, and district executives to better understand the practical use cases of Penda in districts, schools, and classrooms. Focused on understanding how districts/school are implementing Penda Learning (with fidelity), Peloquin uncovered a plethora of use cases ranging from district/school-wide STEM initiatives, school improvement plan goals in science, Response To Intervention strategies for Tier 2 and 3, classroom differentiation strategies, and SSA/EOC resources all while several educators reported being reactive during year # 1 of implementing new science textbook/resource adoption resources.

While teachers and admin shared student feedback and what they liked about Penda, when Peloquin asked "what improvements we can make to better support students, teachers, and admin?" an overwhelming majority of stakeholder responses focused on three key areas: increasing intervention support, increasing ease of use for end-users, decreasing time commitment. In summary, educators need something quick, easy, and highly effective.

Meet Penda Learning's New Assignment UI. Available in August 2019 for the start of the academic year, teachers and administrators will enjoy a completely new assignment UI - designed with ease of use (quick and easy!) and RTI (all tiers) in mind!

Clicking "Assign" off the top navigation bar, teachers will be able to select a class (or classes) to assign activities to in support of RTI Tier 1 - high quality core instruction and differentiated instruction.

Alternatively, to support RTI Tier 2, teachers can opt to strategically assign specific activities to a classroom intervention group (or groups) they've created to further tailor (or differentiate) instruction for a group of like-ability learners. Intervention groups can also be created that span a grade-level or school to support school improvement plan goals.

To support RTI Tier 3 support, teachers have the ability of assigning specific activities to individual learners to support personalized learning or more intensive, prescriptive RTI support.

With the class(es), classroom intervention group(s), or individual learner(s) selected, teachers can then efficiently browse/search for relevant activities to assign by applying various filters or by typing in a standard, keyword, or concept/topic.

Did we mention that teachers will have the ability of editing any science activity before assigning it to learners? That's right - all 538 Penda science activities will be available for teachers to further customize the activity. Teachers will have the freedom to add/remove text, add/remove/modify question and answer options, replace vocabulary, add/remove/modify graphics, add YouTube videos, add audio files for read-aloud capability.

Can't find an activity for a specific standard, concept/topic, or need something custom? No sweat! With PendaSHARE teachers will still have the ability to develop their very own activities for exploration, engagement, explanation, elaboration, or evaluation - create an activity then assign it!

The first user-interface enhancement will be launched for the beginning of school (August 2019) and will address browsing and assigning activities, as shown above. Penda Learning's Development Team will then focus on improving the efficiency of creating/managing classroom and school-wide intervention groups, followed by enhancing Penda's suite of reports, and finally profile management.
