At a training, myself and our science coach were introduced to Penda Learning and felt the program could take us to the next level.   • "We quickly learned that Penda was the perfect solution for our lunch and learn sessions since it provided students with exposure to middle grades science content through a platform that genuinely engaged them in a personalized way, with minimal teacher facilitation. Students personally connected to their avatar and were excited by the challenge of competition between peers and/or other classes. Since Penda reports are generated and delivered to teacher's email every Monday, in an ideal situation, a teacher evaluates student performance and assigns remediation activities as deemed necessary from the Penda data to differentiate instruction. Therefore, Penda may reach an even broader range of our students more deeply if it becomes part of a structured plan where students use Penda as a tool within a unit of instruction, assigned to meet their individual needs. Students can revisit activities with multiple attempts to achieve their highest score. Students take charge of their learning and teachers enter the role of facilitator."

  • "One of our students took several GED practice and pre-tests in the past two to three months. The student was feeling very demoralized due to their results. I encouraged him to make an attempt at Penda Learning science and math lessons - to work on some of the foundation level activities, and then work up to the higher level activities in a short time. The scaffolding of lessons allowed him to become successful on the higher (intermediate) level activities. He became so diligent with Penda Learning that he was one of the highest scoring on the scoreboard for points. He was completing 7 - 20 lessons a day, challenging others, and taking challenges until he could beat other students. Then I had a discussion with administration about allowing him to take further GED testing, because of the effort he put into Penda Learning and studying. He passed the GED science and mathematics... and I am proud to announce that he left our facility yesterday with his GED completed."
